David Elmer Jeremiah (born February 25, 1934 in Portland , Oregon - † October 7, 2013 ) was an American admiral in the US Navy , chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and manager .

biography

After attending school, he studied business administration at the University of Oregon and graduated with a Bachelor of Science ( BS Business Administration ). He then completed a postgraduate course in financial management at George Washington University with a Master of Arts ( MA Financial Management ). During his military career in the US Navy, he was admiral in command of the US Pacific Fleet on September 30, 1987 and held this post until February 15, 1990.

He then became Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on March 1, 1990 , and held this position until he retired on February 28, 1994. As such, he was Acting Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 1st to October 24th, 1993 after the early retirement of General Colin Powell .

After retiring from military service, he moved into the private sector and was CEO of Wackenhut Services, Inc. since 2002. He also became a board member of Alliant Techsystems in 1995, of Todd Shipyards Corporation in 2003 and of the defense company ManTech International in 2004 and was also a board member of Geobiotics, Inc . , In-Q-Tel and the defense company Litton Industries . He was also president of Technology Strategies & Alliances Corporation and since 1999 trustee ( Trustee ) of the MITER Corporation .
