General David C. Jones

David Charles Jones (born July 9, 1921 in Aberdeen , South Dakota - † August 10, 2013 ) was an American general in the US Air Force. He was both Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff .

biography

After attending high school in Minot , he studied at the University of North Dakota and Minot State College . During the Second World War , he joined the US Army Air Forces in 1943. During his military career he graduated from the National War College at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, DC in 1960

On July 1, 1974 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Air Force ( Chief of Staff of the Air Force ) with the rank of General and held this office until June 20, 1978. Subsequently, on June 21, 1978 he was appointed Chairman of the United Chief of Staff ( joint Chiefs of Staff ). He held this post until he retired on June 18, 1982.

After his retirement, General Jones worked in the private sector and served on the board of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA). He was also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations . He was also a member of the evangelical network The Family .
