General John P. Jumper

John P. Jumper (* 4 February 1945 in Paris , Texas ) is an American Air Force's general and former chief of staff of the US Air Force (USAF) ( Chief of Staff of the Air Force shortly CSAF ).

Life

Jumper began his military career in 1966 as a second lieutenant and graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Further stations were training as a pilot (1967), two stations in Southeast Asia (1967/68 and 1969/70), attending the officers and commanders' school at Maxwell Air Force Base (1975–1978) and the National War College in Washington, DC (1982). In March 1983 he assumed his first command as Commander in Chief of the 430th Tactical Combat Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base , Nevada .

On February 1, 1992 Jumper became a Major General promoted and served from May 1992 to February 1994 as Senior Military Assistant of the Secretary of Defense Les Aspin ; From December 21, 1997 to February 2000 he was Commander of the United States Air Forces in Europe in Ramstein , then Chief of Air Combat Command . From September 2001 to September 2005 General John P. Jumper was Chief of Staff of the US Air Force and thus its highest officer. On September 2, 2005, he gave the office to General T. Michael Moseley , the previous Vice Chief of Staff of the USAF. After 39 years of service, Jumper retired on November 1, 2005.

During his time as Chief of Staff of the Air Force , he made a guest appearance on the television series Stargate - Kommando SG-1 , in which he played himself and thus the commander-in-chief of the USAF .
