George S. Brown
George Scratchley Brown (born August 17, 1918 in Montclair , New Jersey , † December 5, 1978 in Washington, DC ) was an American general in the US Air Force and both Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff .
biography
After attending school, he first studied at the University of Missouri . He then joined the US Army Air Forces and was a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point in 1941 .
During his military career, he was named General in 1970, Commander of the Air Force Systems Command in the United States Department of Defense . After three years of service, he became Chief of Staff of the Air Force on August 1, 1973 .
Eleven months later, on July 2, 1974, he was finally appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff . He held this position until he retired on June 20, 1978.
After his death from prostate cancer a few months after his retirement, he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
