General Michael E. Ryan

Michael E. Ryan (born December 24, 1941 in San Antonio , Texas ) is a former general in the US Air Force , who was most recently Chief of Staff of the Air Force .

Life

Ryan, whose father John D. Ryan was also General and Chief of Staff of the Air Force, joined the Air Force after attending the US Air Force Academy , which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in 1965 .

He was promoted to general in the course of his military career and became Vice Director of Strategic Planning and Policy at the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1991 , before being assistant to General John Shalikashvili , chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, between 1993 and 1994 . Afterwards he was first commander of the Sixteenth Air Force at Aviano Air Base and then from 1996 to 1997 commander of the US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE).

On November 6, 1997, he became Chief of Staff of the Air Force and thus the highest-ranking officer in the US Air Force. As such, he retired on September 6, 2001.

Guest appearance on Stargate

In the science fiction series Stargate - Command SG-1 (Season 4, Episode 19: "The Miracle") General Ryan had a guest appearance in 2001: There he played himself in the role of Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
