Off Spin is a technical term of Cricket Sports and refers to a specific type, the ball to bowl . As a subtype of spin bowling , the ball is bowled by a right-hander and the so-called finger spin technique is used.

The bowler uses his fingers to create the drift . The drift is usually less strong than with leg spin . To do this, the bowler spreads his index and middle fingers of his throwing hand along the seam of the ball and the ring finger serves as a further contact surface in the hand. When the ball leaves the hand, the ball is controlled by the index finger and turning the wrist and index finger ensures that the ball turns clockwise.

The ball leaves the bowler's hand at speeds typically slower than 90 km / h. The danger here is not in the speed as in pace bowling , but in the spin that the ball gets. The spin causes the ball to change its direction of movement after it hits the ground. On an off spin , the ball spins to the right as viewed from the right-handed bowler.

Off spin is therefore generally considered less dangerous than leg spin bowling. In addition, the off spinner usually has a smaller repertoire of different throwing techniques. On the other hand the throwing speed and accuracy of bowlers is higher, so that greater opportunities exist in this way the different litters of overs to vary.
