Indian Premier League 2012
The Indian Premier League 2012 was the fifth season of the Twenty20 format competition for Indian cricket teams and took place between April 4 and May 27, 2012. After the franchise of the Kochi Tuskers Karela was excluded for financial reasons, the season was contested with nine teams. The opening game and the final were played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai . In the final, the Kolkata Knight Riders were able to prevail against the Chennai Super Kings with 5 wickets.

Player auction
The season's player auction took place on February 4, 2012. 140 players were offered the franchises, who could then submit their bids above an individually set minimum amount. In addition to players who wanted to be included in the IPL, the players of the excluded team of the Kochi Tuskers Karela were also offered. The bids were made against the background of the national team series taking place parallel to the season, so that the players involved were hardly chosen. This mainly concerned English and West Indian national players. The highest bid went to Ravindra Jadeja , which was auctioned with the maximum possible sum of two million dollars by both the Chennai Super Kings and the Deccan Chargers. In a tiebreaker, he then went to Chennai. Mahela Jayawardene , from the Delhi Daredevils for 1.4 million, and Vinar Kumar , from the Royal Challengers Bangalore, received further bids for $ 1 million.
format
The tournament is divided into two phases. In the preliminary round, each team competes against each other in a home and an away game, resulting in 72 preliminary round games. There are two points for a win and no points for a defeat. If no result can be determined, both teams will each receive one point. In the event of a tie after the regular number of overs, a super over is carried out as a decision . The playoffs are played in the page playoff system . In a first round, the first round against the second and the third against the fourth. The winner of the first game is directly qualified for the final. The loser competes against the winner of the second game, whose winner in turn qualifies for the final.
