The Kings XI Punjab ( Panjabi : ਕਿੰਗਜ਼ ੧੧ ਪੰਜਾਬ) are a cricket team from the city of Mohali in Punjab that plays in the Indian Premier League .

history

In 2008 the Indian Cricket Federation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), founded the Indian Premier League. The eight founding franchises were auctioned on February 20, 2008 in Mumbai . The Kings XI Punjab were bought for $ 76 million by Preity Zinta , Karan Paul and Mohit Burman. On October 10, 2010, the IPL committee terminated the franchise agreement of the Kings XI Punjab and the Rajasthan Royals due to disputes. The teams then announced legal action to stay in the IPL. First, the Kings wanted to try to come to an agreement with the league, and should that fail they would file a lawsuit with the Supreme Court in Mumbai accusing the IPL of wanting to get rid of the two teams just to start the Indian Premier League in 2012 to auction the franchise agreement to more lucrative bidders.

In 2011, the Kings were revived with the involvement of the IPL and the Supreme Court and began to assemble a new team with Michael Bevan as coach and Adam Gilchrist as captain.
