Indian Premier League 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Indian Premier League 2010 was the third season of the Twenty20 format competition for Indian cricket teams and took place between March 12th and April 25th. After the competition was held in South Africa in the previous season for safety reasons , it was held in India again this year. The winners of the competition were the Chennai Super Kings, who were able to prevail against the winner of the preliminary round, Mumbai Indians, in the final.

Attendees

As in the last two years, eight franchises from India took part:

Security concerns

In the previous year, the games of the IPL season were relocated to South Africa, as a safe execution of the tournament could not be guaranteed. Again, there were concerns that there could be terrorist attacks on the tournament. Due to separatist efforts in the Telangana region in the state of Andhra Pradesh and the feared riots, the home games of the Deccan Chargers were not played in Hyderabad as in 2008 . Instead, these were divided between the stadiums in Nagpur , Cuttack and Navi Mumbai .

On April 17, during the top game in Bangalore between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians, two smaller detonations occurred in the vicinity of the stadium, injuring eight people. In addition, three other explosive devices were discovered and partially defused. In response, the semi-finals have been moved from Bangalore to Navi Mumbai.

format

The tournament is divided into two phases. In the group stage, each franchise competes against each other in one home and one away game. There are two points for a win, no points for a defeat. If no result can be determined, both teams will each receive one point. In the event of a tie after the regular number of overs, a super over is carried out as a decision . After the 56 group games, the four best-placed teams play the semi-finals, the final and the game for third place. The finalists and the winner of the game for third place qualify for the Champions League Twenty20 2010 .

Results

The first four after the preliminary round qualify for the semi-finals.
