history

founding

In September 2007 the Indian Premier League was announced and it was determined that it should be operated with franchises. The auction of the first franchises took place on January 24, 2008. The Deccan franchise was founded by the Deccan Chronicle Group, which paid $ 107 million in the first team auction.

2008 season

At the auction, the franchise secured numerous top players, including Adam Gilchrist , Shahid Afridi and VVS Laxman . A planned star player of the first season was Andrew Symonds , who was, however, only briefly available due to obligations for his national team . The season went badly for the team, which finished last with just two wins (against the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings ) and twelve losses. The best batsman on the team was Adam Gilchrist, the best bowler RP Singh .

2009 season

In the new season, which was played in South Africa , the franchise only went into the season as an outsider. This also contributed to the fact that Shahid Afridi left the club and signed Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Smith, although respectable, but no players who raised high expectations. The season started well for the team that started with four wins. Subsequently, however, the Deccan Chargers played only average, with seven wins and seven losses, and only thanks to a defeat of the Kings XI Punjab reached the semi-finals in the last game. There, thanks to an outstanding performance by Adam Gilchrist, who reached his half-century (50 runs) in 17 balls, the Delhi Daredevils were beaten with six wickets. In the final against the Royal Challengers Bangalore , the team was able to prevail with six runs and claim the title. The team's best batsman was Adam Gilchrist, the best bowler RP Singh, who also became the best bowler of the entire IPL with 23 wickets. This placement allowed the franchise to participate in the newly launched Champions League Twenty20 2009 . There they were eliminated against Trinidad and Tobago and Somerset Sabers in the preliminary round.

2010 season

The team's most expensive acquisition at the player auction was Kemar Roach . The season was marked by several series. After an opening defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders, three wins and then five defeats followed. With five wins at the end of the preliminary round, they qualified for the semi-finals. There you met the Chennai Super Kings and lost with 38 runs. In the final game for third place, the team lost with 9 wickets against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team thus also missed qualifying for the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 . The team's best batsman was Andrew Symonds, the best bowler Pragyan Ojha who scored the most wickets of all IPL players with 21 wickets.

2011 season

The new season brought a new captain who was found in Kumar Sangakkara . The Australian bowler Dale Steyn was also committed to the player auction . The team achieved only a few successes during the season. Halfway through the season, they had only got three wins before losing four games in a row. With that they were already eliminated, even if they could win the last three games. As seventh of the season, they missed the play-offs. The team's best batsman was Shikhar Dhawan , and the best bowler was Amit Mishra .

2012 season

Darren Bravo was one of the new signings of the season . It was not until the sixth game of the season that rain gave them the first point when the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders had to be canceled. Apart from that, however, they could only record four wins and were eliminated as eighth after the preliminary round. The team's best batsman was Shikhar Dhawan, and the best bowler was Dale Steyn .

The end of the franchise

In August 2012, it was announced that the owner was planning to sell the franchise. However, at a scheduled auction they only received one bid, which was rejected. Due to a breach of contract, the BCCI dissolved the franchise on September 14, 2012. As a result, the franchise was re-tendered in Hyderabad, whose auction Sun TV won and named the new franchise with Sunrisers Hyderabad .
