Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi (born March 1, 1975 in Khyber Agency , FATA ) is a retired Pakistani cricketer . He was the captain of the Pakistani cricket team in his test , 38 One-Day International Matches (ODIs) and 43 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) . He has completed a total of 27 tests, 298 ODIs and 98 T20Is (as of May 28, 2015). He is currently the player who has completed the most Twenty20 Internationals.

Career

Shahid Afridi made his international debut as a 16-year-old at an ODI against Kenya , but only played as a bowler . In the following match against Sri Lanka he also appeared as a batsman for the first time and broke several records: He achieved the fastest ODI-Century, where he only needed 37 balls for his 100 runs . That was 11 less than previous record holder Sanath Jayasuriya at the time . In this century he also set its record of sixes. At 16 years and 217 days, he is still the youngest player to achieve an ODI Century.

In that game, which Pakistan won, he was voted Man of the Match . It was the beginning of a successful ODI career in which he has played 398 matches to date, 38 of them as captain. He was originally best known for his aggressive batting technique. This has made him a crowd favorite, especially in his home country. In the recent past, however, bowling has become his strength.

Afridi made his test debut two years after his ODI debut. At this point in time he had already contested 66 ODIs for Pakistan, more than anyone before his test debut. Over the years he only played a few tests and resigned from test cricket after his only appearance as test captain in 2010. In T20 International he was a member of the team that won the ICC World Twenty20 in 2009 and became the world champion in this form of play. Immediately afterwards he was given the title of captain in the T20I. On June 3, 2012, Afridi was the first player to play his fiftieth T20 International. After the ICC World Twenty20 in 2016 was disappointing for Pakistan, he resigned as captain, but decided, contrary to previous announcements, to continue playing international cricket.
