The Williams FW35 is the Formula 1 - racing cars of Williams for the Formula 1 2013 season . The car was presented as the last vehicle for the 2013 season on February 19, 2013 at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona ; Williams had contested the first test drives of the year at the Circuito de Jerez with a modified model from last year.

Technology and development

The FW35 is the successor to the FW34 . The car hides the "nose hump" through the newly introduced vanity panel . The car developed by Mike Coughlan is powered by a Renault V8 engine with a 2.4 liter displacement, which develops an output of around 550 kW (≈750 hp). The KERS is an in-house development by Williams, the tires are provided by the standard supplier Pirelli .

Like all Formula 1 vehicles of the 2013 season, the FW35 is equipped with KERS and DRS .

The FW35 is a further development of the FW34; the team focused on achieving significantly more traction and thus being able to protect the rear tires. Around 80 percent of the parts are new, including the transmission, rear suspension, radiator, underbody and nose. The two-part exhaust construction that uses the Coandă effect is also a new development. However, this is suspected of not complying with the technical regulations of the FIA . Williams responded to the assessment of Charlie Whiting , the technical director of the FIA, who classified the exhaust as non-compliant, and denied the third test drives before the season with a different exhaust design.

Also noticeable is the front wing construction, which presents itself as a single, connected component, with an additional element attached in the upper area. Another special feature of the FW35 is that air is fed through the axles via the brake ventilation.

Painting and sponsorship

The Williams FW35 is painted dark blue. There are also white color accents on the vehicle. Major sponsors on the vehicle are PDVSA , Randstad , Wihuri , Experian and Renault.

driver

Pastor Maldonado stayed with Williams. His new team-mate was Valtteri Bottas , who joined the team as the successor to Bruno Senna .
