The Mercedes F1 W04 is the Formula 1 - racing cars from Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team for the Formula 1 2013 season . It is the fifth Mercedes Formula 1 car. The car was presented on February 4, 2013 at the Circuito de Jerez .
Technology and development
The Mercedes F1 W04 is the successor to the Mercedes F1 W03 . The car hides the "nose hump" through the newly introduced vanity panel . The car developed by Aldo Costa is powered by a V8 engine called Mercedes-Benz FO 108F with a displacement of 2.4 liters, which develops an output of around 550 kW (≈750 hp). The KERS is an in-house development by Mercedes and the tires are provided by the standard supplier Pirelli .
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of the 2013 season, the W04 is equipped with KERS and DRS .
The Mercedes F1 W04 represents a further development of the previous year's model. The side pods are clearly undercut, on the edge of the cockpit there are horizontal fins at the height of the exterior mirrors. The air inlet above the cockpit has been made smaller, there is a small slot in the side box right next to the pilot. In the central area of the rear wing there is a new mechanism for activating the DRS , apparently the wing is not opened by a cable, but by a lever. The exhaust with the Coandă effect has also been redesigned.
Painting and sponsorship
The Mercedes F1 W04 is predominantly painted in silver , based on the Mercedes Silver Arrows . The side pods and parts of the front and rear wing are painted cyan because of the main sponsor Petronas . In addition to stickers from Daimler AG (with the Mercedes-Benz brand ), advertising logos from Allianz , BlackBerry , Isofotón , MIG Bank , Monster Energy , Pirelli, Puma , spg and IWC Schaffhausen are attached to the vehicle.
driver
Nico Rosberg stayed with Mercedes. His new teammate was Lewis Hamilton , who came into the team as successor to Michael Schumacher . Sam Bird , Brendon Hartley and Anthony Davidson are used as test drivers .
