Mercedes-Benz type Mannheim 370 S (1931)

The Mercedes-Benz W 10 , called Mannheim 350 , replaced the 350 model in 1929 . The design from Ferdinand Porsche had been revised by Hans Nibel . Often the convertible models of the type W 10 are also simply called Mercedes Roadsters .

Mercedes-Benz type Mannheim 350 (1929–1930)

The basic construction of the previous model was adopted, but the car has a 230 mm shorter wheelbase and is slightly lighter. In addition to a touring car, a four-door limousine and a Pullman limousine, there was also a Cabriolet D.

The engine, a side-controlled six-cylinder in-line unit with a capacity of 3444 cm³, had also been taken over from its predecessor. In the new car it develops 70 hp (51 kW) and drives the rear wheels via a three-speed gearbox with center shift. Another name for the car is therefore "14/70 HP". Both axes are rigid and hang on semi-elliptic leaf springs . All four wheels are equipped with cable brakes. The maximum speed is 95 km / h.

Mercedes-Benz Mannheim 370 (1929–1935)

A vehicle with a 3.7 liter engine also appeared parallel to the Mannheim 350 model. This has a displacement of 3689 cm³ and develops 75 hp (55 kW). Therefore this type was also called "15/75 HP". An overdrive (1: 0.76) was optionally available for the three-speed transmission. In addition to the previously mentioned bodies, the Cabriolet C was also available as a factory body. The cars reach a top speed of 100 km / h.

Mercedes-Benz type Mannheim 370 K (WK 10, 1930–1933)

Only the Cabriolet C and Cabriolet NC were offered on a chassis with a wheelbase shortened by 175 mm. Due to the lower vehicle mass, these models reached a top speed of 105 km / h.

Mercedes-Benz type Mannheim 370 S (WS 10, 1930–1933)

A roadster and a sports convertible were built on an even shorter chassis (2850 mm wheelbase). Their top speed was 115 km / h. In the last year of production there was a revised engine for these models only, which delivered 78 hp (57.3 kW) at a speed of 3400 instead of 3300 rpm and a compression of 1: 5.75 instead of 1: 5.5.

Mercedes-Benz type Mannheim 380 S (W 10, 1932–1933)

The Mannheim 380 S with a side-controlled eight-cylinder in-line engine was offered on the normal Mannheim chassis with a 3200 mm wheelbase. This engine has a displacement of 3820 cm³ and develops 80 PS (59 kW), which is why the vehicle was also sold as "15/80 PS". The vehicles, which were available as Cabriolets A, B or C with leaf-sprung rigid axles, reach a top speed of 120 km / h.

In 1933 the model series was replaced by the Type 290 and Type 380 .

Replicas

In Germany, the Bavarian automobile manufacturer Scheib produces the W 10 as a replica under the name Mercedes Roadster 33 . It is equipped with VW - boxer engines from the earlier VW -models 1302 and 1303 . The power is around 34 to 50 hp. The manufacturer uses GRP fiberglass so that the body cannot rust. The technology and vehicle parts used for the replica come from discarded units of the VW models 1200 and 1300 .
