The Mercedes-Benz W 129 , called Mercedes-Benz 580 K , was a prototype , the 1939 and 1940 as the successor to the 540 K type was built.

The design of the vehicles corresponded to that of the type 540 K. The displacement of the engine had grown to 5800 cm³. The engine developed 96 kW (130 PS) in naturally aspirated mode and 147 kW (200 PS) with a compressor. The top speed was 180 km / h.

On the short chassis, however, only a few prototypes were made as a sports coupé and sports roadster. Due to the war, there was no longer any series production.
