Mercedes-Benz type 320 n (type W 142 I, 1937–1938)

The car was built on the short chassis of the 290 type . Its body is slightly longer and wider than that of its predecessor. The car has a side-controlled six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 3208 cm³ and 78 hp (57 kW). It has a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox. The chassis, with a pendulum axle at the rear and a front axle with a transverse leaf spring and coil springs, also corresponds to the W 18 type. The radiator grille was now a little swept, tilted back and without crossbars for the headlights, which gives the vehicle a sleeker look. The car reaches a top speed of 130 km / h.

Mercedes-Benz Type 320 (type W 142 II, 1937–1938)

Together with the previously mentioned models, the versions were offered on the long W 18 chassis. In this case, too, the bodies are longer and wider than those of the predecessor. There was no technical difference to type 320 n; In addition to the chassis, the four-door sedan and the convertible A, the convertibles B and D as well as a Pullman sedan, a Pullman convertible F, a roadster and a streamlined sedan were also offered.

Mercedes-Benz type 320 WK (type W 142 III, 1937–1939)

A Wehrmacht bucket car was offered on the short chassis . The front was designed in the style of the W 18 model with a cross bracket for attaching the headlights. It has four front-hinged doors, a convertible top and large tires. This model reaches a top speed of 118 km / h.

Mercedes-Benz Type 320 (type W 142 IV, 1938–1942)

In 1938 a larger six-cylinder engine with 3405 cm³ displacement was used in the model with the long chassis. Its compression was reduced from 1: 6.6 to 1: 6.25 (or from 1: 7.25 to 1: 7.0) in order to cope with the less knock-resistant gasoline from coal synthesis. The engine output remained at 78 hp (57 kW). Despite the increased displacement, the model name "320" remained. The four-speed gearbox was provided with an additional overdrive gear (1: 0.73). Like their predecessors, the cars reach a top speed of 126 km / h.

Mercedes-Benz type 340 WK (type W 142 IV, 1939–1940)

The Kübelwagen type W 142 III also received the larger engine in 1939. In this case, this was not only reflected in the type designation, but also gave the car a slight increase in performance. With 80 PS (59 kW) it reaches the same top speed as its predecessor. In 1942 the model series was discontinued due to the war.
