The Mercedes AMG F1 W10 EQ Power + is the Formula 1 - racing cars of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team for the Formula 1 World Championship 2019 . It is the eleventh Formula 1 racing car from Mercedes. It was presented at Silverstone on February 13, 2019 .
The name of the vehicle is made up of part of the team name, the letter W , a consecutive number and the name of the Mercedes brand for electric mobility , EQ (as a symbol for Electric Intelligence ).
Technology and development
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2019, the Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power + is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including the body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP. The brake discs are also made from a heat-resistant carbon fiber reinforced composite material.
The W10 EQ Power + is the successor to the W09 EQ Power + . Since the technical regulations for the 2019 season remained largely stable, the vehicle is largely a further development.
Is driven the W10 EQ Power + by Mercedes-AMG F1 M10 EQ Power + , an in vehicle center -mounted 1.6 liter V-6 engine of Mercedes AMG High Performance Power Trains with a turbocharger and a 120 kW strong electric motor , so it is a hybrid electric vehicle . The sequential gearbox of the car is supplied by Mercedes and has eight gears. The gear change is triggered by paddles on the steering wheel. The vehicle has only two pedals, an accelerator pedal (right) and a brake pedal (left). Just like many other functions, the clutch , which is only used when starting from a standstill, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.
The total width of the vehicle is 2000 mm, the width between the front and rear axles 1600 mm, the height 950 mm. The front wing has a width of 2000 mm, the rear wing of 1050 mm and a height of 820 mm. The diffuser has a total height of 175 mm and a width of 1050 mm. The car is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels.
Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the W10 EQ Power + has a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing , if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.
The W10 EQ Power + is equipped with the Halo system , which provides additional protection for the driver's head.
Painting and sponsorship
The W10 EQ Power + is mainly painted in silver. In addition, there is a cyan-colored stripe on the side because of the main sponsor Petronas . Behind the driver, the silver paintwork turns into black.
There were several special paint schemes for the vehicle: At the Monaco Grand Prix , the halo system was painted red based on the trademark of Niki Lauda , who had died a few days earlier , the red baseball cap .
On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the first automobile competition , the front of the vehicles at the German Grand Prix was painted white. Based on the history of the Silver Arrows , behind the front wheels the impression was given that the white paint had been scraped off, and the silver paintwork could be seen here again. The sponsor logos in the area of the white front of the vehicle were either replaced by historical sponsor logos or only applied in gray shades .
CrowdStrike , Epson , IWC , Petronas, Pirelli, Qualcomm and Tommy Hilfiger advertise on the vehicle.
driver
Mercedes will compete again in the 2019 season with drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton .
