In the event of a successful overtaking maneuver on the start-finish straight, the driver in front was allowed to use the DRS again in the second zone. The third DRS zone began 104 meters after turn twelve , the associated measuring point was 170 meters before turn eleven .

Qualifying
The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 15 drivers reached the next part. Leclerc was the fastest. The Williams drivers, Sainz, Gasly and Stroll were eliminated.
The second section (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. The ten fastest pilots qualified for the third part of qualifying. Hamilton was fastest. The Toro Rosso drivers, Giovinazzi and the Renault drivers were eliminated.
The final section (Q3) lasted twelve minutes, during which the first ten starting positions were awarded. Hamilton set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 20.486 minutes ahead of Bottas and Vettel. run
At the start, Bottas passed Hamilton, behind which Leclerc overtook Verstappen and attacked Vettel in the first corner on the outside. He couldn't get past, lost ground and fell behind Verstappen again. In midfield, Ricciardo started better than Pérez, but then had to move onto the grass when Pérez pulled in. In the process he lost his front wing and subsequently fell back to the bottom of the field. Kubica collided with Gasly in the first corner, and he lost his front wing in the process. After the first lap, Kubica and Ricciardo pitted for repairs, both had their tires changed at the same time and tried to end the race with the hard tire compound without another pit stop .
Bottas led ahead of Hamilton, Vettel, Verstappen, Leclerc, Magnussen, Grosjean, Hülkenberg, Raikkonen and Norris. In the following rounds, the positions remained largely unchanged. On the tenth lap, Sainz parked his car on the edge of the track with a technical defect and a lot of smoke.
On the twelfth lap, Räikkönen, the first driver in the top ten, pitted to change tires, he switched to the medium tire compound. Hulkenberg reacted a lap later and switched to Hard .
Vettel and Magnussen switched to Medium on lap 14 , Hamilton, Grosjean and Norris a lap later. At Grosjean, the wheel nut at the front left could not be tightened again at first, so he lost a lot of ground. Despite his older tires, Bottas drove the fastest laps of the race to date.
Bottas switched to Medium on the 23rd lap , so that Verstappen took the lead. Two laps later, he also switched to medium , coming back on the track just behind Vettel. Leclerc was the last driver in the leading group to pit on lap 29 to change tires, he switched to Hard .
Halfway through the race, Bottas was 15 seconds ahead of Hamilton, Vettel, Verstappen, Leclerc, Gasly, Magnussen, Hülkenberg, Raikkonen and Stroll. Gasly was the only pilot in the top ten who started with the medium tires and had not yet been to the tire change.
Verstappen caught up with Vettel with his fresh tires and passed on lap 31. Ricciardo gave up the race in the pits, Grosjean parked his car on the side of the track. The TV images showed that his front left wheel was not properly attached. Bottas and Leclerc drove the fastest laps of the race to date. In the following laps, Bottas increased his lead increasingly.
In midfield, Kwjat put Stroll under pressure, but braked himself in the White Ford so that he had to drive through the run-off zone . He fell behind Stroll again. On lap 37 Gasly switched to the soft mix; he dropped back to tenth place during his pit stop. Kwjat took advantage of the tires that were already at operating temperature and overtook Gasly; so he was now tenth. Despite softer and significantly newer tires, Gasly was unable to overtake Kwjat on the following laps.
Leclerc caught up between 0.6 and 0.9 seconds on Vettel per lap, ten laps before the end he was still around two seconds behind his teammate. Verstappen, who had been around 1.5 seconds behind Hamilton for several laps, braked himself in the Jones and drove through the run-off zone. He lost a few seconds but remained third.
In the 51st lap, Leclerc was in the DRS window behind Vettel for the first time. In the following laps, however, his deficit increased again. Bottas, who had set the fastest lap of the race at this point, inquired by radio in his pits whether he should have a fresh set of tires fitted in view of more than 25 seconds in order to improve his lap time again. However, the team refused, saying they didn't want to take unnecessary risks. Verstappen drove the fastest lap of the race so far on lap 54; he shortened the gap to Hamilton to around one second. Bottas stepped up on lap 57 and drove by far the fastest lap of the race.
Bottas won the race ahead of Hamilton and Verstappen. It was the fourth victory for Bottas in the Formula 1 World Championship. The remaining points were placed by Vettel, Leclerc, Magnussen, Hülkenberg, Raikkonen, Stroll and Kwjat. Since Bottas set the fastest lap and finished in the top ten, he received an additional point.
The order in the overall ranking was identical to the race result. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes led with a maximum of 44 points ahead of Ferrari and Red Bull Racing .
