Model history

As the predecessor of the C-Class, the Mercedes 190 (internal designation W 201) was introduced in 1982 as the smallest Mercedes car at the time. To this day it is popularly referred to as the so-called Baby Benz. He expanded the range of passenger cars downwards, which until then had mainly consisted of the mid-size Mercedes of the 123 series (predecessor of today's E-Class ) and the 126 series S-Class . In 1993 the W 201 was replaced by the first C-Class ( 202 series ). This was followed by the second C-Class 203 series in 2000 .

The 204 series C-Class appeared on March 31, 2007 . The T-model followed in September 2007. Between May 2008 and February 2011 there was a new coupé based on the previous model, the CL 203 , which was called the CLC class . C-Class vehicles of the 205 series have been delivered since March 2014 .

Since 1997 there has also been the A-class below the C -class . Since then, the C-Class is no longer the smallest Mercedes model series, but the smallest rear-wheel drive in series. The B-Class has also existed below the C-Class since 2005 .

The C-Class 204 series was available with two “faces” for the first time: while the Mercedes star is on the bonnet of the Classic and Elegance equipment lines , the sporty avant-garde line is the first Mercedes sedan to have the star Grille. So far, only the roadster and coupé models have had the star in their grilles.

While the sedan of the 204 series was also manufactured in the Sindelfingen, Pune (India) and East London (South Africa) plants, the station wagon was built exclusively in Bremen.

The C-Class has been produced at the Bremen plant since 2014 (205 series) .
