Mercedes-Benz Study SLK I is a concept vehicle from Mercedes-Benz that was presented in spring 1994 and later went into series production as the Mercedes-Benz R 170 .

presentation

Mercedes-Benz study SLK I was presented at the Turin Motor Show in Turin in spring 1994. The open roadster was presented in a near-series design, but without a car roof . The short overhangs at the front and rear, a pronounced wedge shape, the compact external dimensions and clad rollover gates behind each of the two seats were noticeable, reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR sports car .

A lot of shiny metal could be seen in the interior - 20 percent of the surfaces are clad. The central element in the interior is an "apparently floating" dashboard made of "very light carbon fiber material". The instruments and the ignition lock are set in aluminum ; the ignition lock is embedded in a horizontally pivoting hemisphere. The short selector lever protrudes from a second aluminum hemisphere in the center console . The clutch , the brake and the accelerator pedal are made of "perforated light metal".

The vehicle was powered by a four-stroke - gasoline engine with four cylinders , had a rear-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission .

Serial production

Mercedes-Benz Study SLK I and Mercedes-Benz Study SLK II were produced from 1996 to 2004 under the series name Mercedes-Benz R 170 . In 2000 the series underwent a facelift .
