AutoWeek is a car magazine of Crain Communications from Detroit .

history

The first AutoWeek appeared in the United States on July 16, 1958 . The magazine initially dealt exclusively with motorsport and was published under the name Competition Press . The logo was a stylization of the striped racing helmet of the French Jean Behra . As circulation increased in the 1960s, vehicle and industry news was added and the name was changed to Competition Press & Autoweek . In the 1980s, there was only Autoweek left. One of the magazine's early publishers was racing driver and journalist Denise McCluggage .
