The Mercedes MGP W01 was the Formula 1 racing car of the Mercedes GP team in the 2010 season . The car designed by Loïc Bigois , John Owen and Ross Brawn was the first car designed by Mercedes in Formula 1 since the Mercedes-Benz W 196 of 1954 and 1955 . The car was powered by a 2.4-liter V8 engine from the manufacturer Mercedes-Benz HPE from Brixworth, UK, named Mercedes-Benz FO108X .

The design (at BGP 001 ) was presented to the public on January 25, 2010 in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart . The actual vehicle was first seen on February 1, 2010 during test drives in Valencia .

Painting and sponsorship

The Mercedes MGP W01 was predominantly silver-colored based on the Mercedes Silver Arrows . The side pods and parts of the front and rear wing were painted cyan because of the main sponsor Petronas , the nose and parts of the engine cover were black. There were silver stickers from Daimler AG (with the Mercedes-Benz brand ) and advertising lettering from Aabar Investments , Autonomy , Bridgestone , Deutsche Post AG and MIG Bank on the vehicle.

driver

The drivers in the Mercedes MGP W01 were Michael Schumacher , who last contested a Formula 1 race at the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix and had actually already ended his career in Formula 1 afterwards, and Nico Rosberg , who had worked for the Williams four seasons before -Team drove.

The test and reserve driver was Nick Heidfeld , who had competed for BMW Sauber F1 the previous year . However, towards the middle of the season, Heidfeld was released to switch to the tire manufacturer Pirelli as a test driver .
