Previous model Mercedes-Benz W 07

The Mercedes-Benz W 150 , also known as the 770 or Grand Mercedes , was introduced in 1938 as the fundamentally revised successor to the Mercedes-Benz W 07 . Like its predecessor, the model was always called the Grand Mercedes or Type 770 .

General

Mercedes-Benz W 150 Cabriolet, BJ: 1938 ( Technik-Museum Sinsheim )
Mercedes-Benz W 150 II sedan, YOC: 1943 (Technik-Museum Sinsheim)

A total of 88 vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz W 150 were built at the Sindelfingen plant between 1938 and June 1943 .

Only a few cars were sold to private individuals. The majority went to offices of the German Reich , such as B. the Reich Chancellery for use by Adolf Hitler .

Compared to the W 07, the vehicle length increased by 40 centimeters to 6 meters. The chassis with 13 centimeters longer wheelbase (3.88 m) consisted of oval tubes with pressed steel parts instead of U-profiles with cross bracing. The mechanical actuation of the drum brakes was replaced by a hydraulic one, the rigid axle at the front gave way to an independent suspension on double wishbones , while a factory-made parallel wheel axle called the De-Dion axle was used at the rear . In contrast to its predecessor, all W 150s were fitted with a supercharged engine, the output of which was increased by 30 hp to 230 hp (169 kW).

The special version with the internal designation W 150 II, built from 1940 to 1943, was armored with 18 mm steel, had glazing made of 40 mm armored glass, 19 "armored steel wheels and bulletproof 20-chamber tires. The fenders were made of light metal to reduce weight Empty weight was 4780 kg (otherwise 3400 to 3600 kg) For reasons of tire durability, the manufacturer recommended a maximum speed of 80 km / h (otherwise 170 km / h).

The list prices were RM 44,000 for the four-door W-150 sedan and RM 47,500 for the seven-seat convertible F (which corresponds to approximately € 190,000 and € 205,000 today).

In direct comparison with all top models from Daimler (the 460/500 , Mercedes-Benz 300 "Adenauer" , Mercedes-Benz W 100 and Maybach 62 ) it becomes clear what a huge car the 770 was - the radiator grille alone was high of about one meter.
