The Mercedes-Benz L 325 is a truck that Daimler-Benz produced at the Gaggenau plant from June 1954 to 1957 . It replaced the L 5500 type. The L 325 was only built as a long-nosed truck with a flatbed, as a tipper and as a tractor with rear-wheel drive.

technology
Chassis and power transmission
The L 325 is a two-axle truck with a U-profile ladder frame , the cross members of which are riveted to the side members. The two rigid axles are suspended from two leaf springs at the front and rear . The rear axle also has progressive auxiliary springs. For the front axle, shock absorbers were available ex works on request . The size 10–20 eHD tires are mounted on tapered shoulder rims of size 7.5–20, with twin tires at the rear. Reinforced tires of the same size were available on request. The Teves brake system works hydraulically with compressed air support on all four brake drums . It is steered with a worm steering system with an undivided tie rod ; the L 325 is only available as a left-hand drive.
The driving force is from the engine via a single dry type Fichtel & Sachs LA 50 to a five-speed mechanical claw transmission of the type AK 5-33 of ZF transmitted, which is interlocked with the engine, and from there via a cardan shaft to the bevel gear differential gear to the rear axle. There is no all-wheel drive for the L 325. Tipper trucks have a drive for the tipper oil pump, which is driven by the gearbox.
engine
The L 325 is powered by the Mercedes-Benz OM 325 diesel engine introduced in 1954 . The OM 325 is a six-cylinder in - line engine with pre-chamber injection and water cooling . The engine block, consisting of the cylinder block and crankcase, is made of nickel-alloyed cast iron. The cylinder bore is 105 mm, the piston stroke 140 mm. The engine has a displacement of 7274 cm³ and makes 125 hp. The pistons from Mahle are cast from light metal. They have four piston rings , one of which is chrome-plated , and two oil control rings . The power is transmitted via connecting rods with a double T-shaft cross-section to a forged crankshaft with counterweights and vibration dampers, which is hardened at all bearing points and has seven bearings .
The crankshaft drives the camshaft with seven bearings in the crankcase via spur gears, which actuate the vertically hanging valves via tappets , push rods and rocker arms . Each cylinder has an inlet and an outlet valve. The two three cylinders spanning cylinder heads are removable and have an asbestos cylinder head gasket .
The sucked in air is cleaned by two oil bath air filters with suction silencers and reaches the cylinders via a suction pipe that is led through the cylinder head cover . The fuel is cleaned with a Filzvorfilter and a centrifugal speed governor-controlled fuel injection pump of the type 6A 80 410 B RS 64/7 Bosch PES through an injection nozzle of the type Bosch DNO SD 211 in the atria injected. The engine is lubricated with a pressure circulation lubrication ; the oil delivered by a gear oil pump is cleaned by a filter in the main flow. The engine oil pan under the crankcase is made of light metal. The engine is cooled with a water pipe cooler, whose warm exhaust air is blown away by a fan.
