design
Exterior
Basic design features of the previous generations of the M-Class, such as the special C-pillar shape, were retained, as was the basic shape. At the front, the headlights and the radiator grille have been slightly redesigned, while the LED daytime running light strips are placed in the now enlarged side inlets of the front apron. The higher chrome-look underguard is located below the radiator grille. In the side view, the less exposed wheel arches and the sloping roof line towards the rear are noticeable. The beads and edges are also noticeable. In addition, the W 166 had short overhangs, which were due to the large wheelbase. The transition from the rear side window to the rear runs smoothly without a visible column. The horizontally aligned LED rear lights reach far into the side. The spoiler was retained at the rear, while the new bumper with integrated loading sill protection in chrome look.
interior
The interior has been redesigned more than the exterior. A large decorative element has now been attached to the instrument panel, which continues in the doors. The central display with a diagonal of 14.7 cm, which is surrounded by the ventilation nozzles, is now integrated into the upper part of the instrument panel. The four-spoke steering wheel has also been slightly redesigned. The instrument cluster still has two clearly drawn round instruments. The radio and the navigation system are operated using the central rotary pushbutton.

There is also a choice of two diesels - a four-cylinder for the first time - that already meet the Euro 6 standard. The 2.1-liter in-line four-cylinder diesel engine with biturbo charging ( OM 651 ) in the ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC has an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and consumes 6 l per 100 km, which makes it the most economical SUV in its class. The 190 kW (258 PS), turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine OM 642 LS in the ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC is also in the price list.
Contrary to the initial communication that the M-Class will no longer be offered on the European market with an eight-cylinder gasoline engine, the ML 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY model was released in October 2012. The 4.7-liter V8 direct injection, which is charged with two turbochargers, has an output of 300 kW (408 PS) and appeared on the Canadian and American markets in February 2012.
In February 2012 the top model of the 166 series was launched on the Canadian market, the European market launch took place in April. The ML 63 AMG is a 5.5-liter V8 gasoline engine with a 5.5-liter displacement and biturbo charging that produces 386 kW (525 hp) or 410 kW (557 hp) with the AMG Performance Package . This model has the Active Curve System roll stabilization as standard.
All models are linked to the 7G-Tronic Plus 7-speed automatic transmission with automatic start-stop and feature 4MATIC permanent all - wheel drive as standard .
