The Mercedes-Benz Vario ( T2W series) is the successor to the Mercedes-Benz T 2 . It was built from 1996 to 2013 at the Ludwigsfelde plant. The external differences to the predecessor are quite small - headlights, indicators and grille have been redesigned, but the interior has also been redesigned.
The engines were the five-cylinder diesel engine OM 602 with a displacement of 2.9 l and the four-cylinder diesel engine OM 904 with a displacement of 4.3 l. The OM 904 was offered in variants from 95 kW to 130 kW (129 PS to 177 PS).
The car was offered with wheelbases from 3150 mm to 4800 mm. The length varied accordingly from 5220 mm to 8230 mm with a width of 2206 mm. The lowest curb weight was 2740 kg.
The Vario was available with gross weights from 4.8 t to 7.49 t. The model names according to series are:

Cessation of production in 2013
Due to the high adaptation costs of the vehicle to meet the future Euro 6 standard and the implementation of an adapted ESP control , Mercedes-Benz stopped sales for the 2014 model year and production on September 27, 2013. In addition, the manufacturer names the falling sales of the series as the reason. There is no direct successor; the successors are the heavy-duty versions of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the models from the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter series ( Mitsubishi Fuso has been part of Daimler Trucks since 2011 ).
