The Mercedes-Benz W 149 , called Type 170 SV or Type 200 V , was an all- terrain sports car that Daimler-Benz AG produced from 1938 to 1939 with the same roadster body as the 170 VS (W 136 S) .

The company sent a total of 30 off-road sports cars, some of the 170 SV, some of the 200 V type, to the motor vehicle winter test of 1938, which was held by the Reich government as a motorsport competition, but in which the war usability of series automobiles was to be secretly tested. The vehicles were two-seater Roadster and had a four-cylinder in - line engine with overhead valves , which drew 53 hp (39 kW) at 3600 rpm with single carburetor and 64 hp (47 kW) at 3500 rpm with double carburetor from 2007 cc. This enabled the vehicles to reach 116 km / h or 120 km / h.

The 170 SV had a reinforced chassis and off-road tires, while the 200 V was equipped with normal chassis and road tires. Both types had five-speed gearboxes with center shift, hydraulically operated drum brakes on all four wheels and central lubrication .

Neither type of vehicle was available for free sale.
