The Mercedes-Benz W 37 , known as the L 1000 Express , appeared in 1929 as a variant of the Stuttgart 260 model with its chassis and technology.

It had a six-cylinder in-line engine with 2581 cm³ displacement, which made 50 hp (37 kW) at 3400 rpm. The engine power was passed on to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch and a three- or four-speed gearbox, which were attached to a rigid axle and suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs. The front axle was also rigid and hung on semi-elliptical leaf springs. The car had a linkage brake for all four wheels .

The L 1000 Express was built as a flatbed , box van , ambulance , minibus with ten seats or bucket wagon and reached a maximum of 60 km / h.

The Kübelwagen for the Wehrmacht was built until 1935, the other body styles until 1936.
