The Mercedes-Benz O 402 is a midi-bus in high-floor structure , which was built from 1985 to 1989. Technically and visually, the vehicle is based on the second generation of VÖV buses from Daimler-Benz, the Mercedes-Benz O 405 . The chassis, however, comes from the Swiss subsidiary Nutzfahrzeuggesellschaft Arbon & Wetzikon (NAW), the body from the Göppel Bus company in Augsburg.

A total of 60 O 402s were built. Most of the specimens in Germany have since been taken out of service and apparently the majority were sold to Poland, where they were still in service until recently.

Fire engine

The Munich airport fire brigade had an emergency control vehicle (ELW) for major incidents based on an O 402. The ELW has been developed as a briefing room and has workplaces with various radios , faxes , mobile phones and aircraft radio . The vehicle is now owned by an aviation club from Upper Bavaria near Landsberg am Lech.
