The Unimog 437.4 is a vehicle from the Unimog series from Mercedes-Benz and has been in series production by Daimler AG at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth since August 2002 . The vehicle was presented at the IAA 2002 in Hanover. Technically, the Unimog 437.4 is based on its predecessor, the Unimog 437.1 . In the Unimog series, the 437.4 belongs to the previously heavy, now all-terrain series, whose angular cab appearance, introduced in 1974, has been retained in the Unimog 437.4 to this day. In 2013 the 437.4 series underwent a comprehensive model update. In the first ten years of production, 6,497 vehicles of twelve types rolled off the assembly line. The Dingo 2 is also built on the chassis of the Unimog 437.4. The model designation of the Unimog 437.4 is no longer based on the engine power in DIN PS.Instead, like the Unimog 405, numbers (U 3000, U 4000, U 5000) were used that no longer allow any conclusions to be drawn about the engine power. Until 3/2010 the vehicles were delivered with the OM 904 / OM 924 and an exhaust gas cleaning system according to Euro 3, from July 1, 2009 with a modified exhaust gas treatment system according to Euro 5.

The U 3000/4000/5000 series was built until April 2013 and was then given a further facelift in the wake of the stricter emission limits in Europe.

The vehicles now had the designation U 4023/5032, the OM 934 LA engine was installed and the Euro 6 emission class was achieved. The engine was moved further back, the exhaust gas treatment changed and the cab adapted to the new space. In the interior of the driver's cab, the equipment design has also been changed, as has the bumper, which has now been fitted with significantly smaller round headlights.

The vehicle is biaxial and has a cranked ladder frame with U-shaped side members, the cross members of which are welded. The wheels are suspended at the front and rear on rigid portal axles with wheel countershafts that are guided on thrust tubes and wishbones . They are based on coil springs with telescopic shock absorbers, and stabilizers are also built in. The torque is transmitted from the centrally installed gearbox to the axles via cardan shafts running in the thrust tubes; the differential gears can be locked. As is usual with the Unimog, the rear axle is permanently driven, while the front axle drive can be activated. According to Daimler, the possible axle articulation of this construction is up to 30 °. A fully synchronized gearbox with eight forward and six reverse gears is installed as standard, the four-cylinder diesel engine is offered in various power levels.
