The Unimog 405 is a vehicle from the Unimog series from Mercedes-Benz that is marketed as a Unimog implement carrier . The Daimler AG built it as a successor to the Unimog 408 since 2000, first in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau before production in 2002 in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth changed.

The sales names U20, U290, U300, U400 and U500 did not contain any precise information about the engine.

In 2013 the model was revised, but kept the series designation. The Unimog 405 is currently being offered under the sales names U216, U218, U318, U323, U423, U427, U430, U527, U530, 6 of which are also available with the addition of long with a long wheelbase.

Model 405.110

Based on the Unimog 404.1 ( Unimog S ) , several prototypes of a 405 series were created , which were produced with armored bodies as the Unimog SH and Unimog T , but not in series. Nine of these vehicles were used in armed conflicts in the Congo from 1962 onwards.
