The Mercedes-Benz L 326 is a heavy truck from Daimler-Benz AG , which was produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau from 1956 to 1958 . It is based on the L 6600 . Initially only in long hood version as chassis L 326 , Tipper LK 326 and tractor LS 326 built was in 1957 as LP 326 , a cab-over offer. As early as 1958, production was stopped again due to Seebohm's laws . In contrast to the weaker L 315, there is no all-wheel drive L 326. The hoods were replaced on the foreign market by the L 332 and L 334, and on the German market in 1958 they were replaced by the LP 333 .
Models
Four different models were built, all with rear-wheel drive:
- L 326 (base model, chassis, 1956–1958)
- LK 326 (tipper, 1956–1958)
- LS 326 (tractor, 1956–1958)
- LP 326 (forward control truck, chassis and platform, 1957–1958)
technology
Chassis and power transmission
The L 326 is a two-axle heavy truck with a ladder frame made of U-profiles with riveted cross members. The front and rear rigid axles are suspended from longitudinal leaf springs (or semi- leaf springs on dump trucks), the front axle also has two hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers , and two progressive auxiliary springs are installed on the rear axle. While the front axle has single tires, the rear axle has twin tires. The wheels are sheet steel disc wheels with tapered shoulder rims of size 8–20, on which tires of size 11–20 eHD are mounted in a reinforced design. A Westinghouse air pressure brake from Mercedes-Benz acts on all four wheels. The steering is a Gemmer type ZF GD 68 with an undivided tie rod . The L 326 was built exclusively as a left-hand drive. Either a classic hood control cab or a front control cab is built on the chassis .
The power is transmitted from the diesel engine via a single-disc friction clutch of the type Fichtel & Sachs G 70 KR to the vertically installed, unsynchronized six-speed claw- shift transmission of the type ZF AK 6-70 . Vehicles with a tipper body also have a drive for the tipper oil pump on the gearbox. The power is transmitted from the gearbox via a two-part cardan shaft to a spiral bevel gearbox on the rear axle. There was no all-wheel drive for the L 326.
engine
The engine of the type Mercedes-Benz OM 326 .I is a six-cylinder - Series - antechamber - diesel engine with water cooling and four overhead valves . It is suspended on the frame in four rubber bearings. The split crankcase made of gray cast iron is cast with the cylinder block, which is also made of gray cast iron. With a cylinder bore of 128 mm and a piston stroke of 140 mm, the engine has a total displacement of 10809 cm³. Forged light alloy pistons from Mahle with four compression rings and two oil control rings run in the cylinders ; a compression ring is chrome-plated . The force is transmitted to the forged crankshaft via a double-T connecting rod, which is supported and hardened seven times in plain bearings. It has counterweights and a vibration damper.
The crankshaft drives the camshaft located in the crankcase via helical spur gears . It operates two inlet and two outlet valves per cylinder via tappets , push rods and rocker arms , which are suspended vertically in the cylinder head. The engine has six individual cylinder heads, which are sealed to the engine block with an asbestos-containing cylinder head gasket.
The fuel is cleaned by a two-stage fuel filter, the first stage of which is a felt tube filter and the second a micronic filter. It is then injected into the prechambers by a Bosch PES 6 A 90 B 410 RS 283/7 block injection pump through the Bosch DNO SD 211 injection nozzles. The injection pump is controlled by a centrifugal governor. The sucked in air is cleaned by two paper filters and fed to the combustion chambers for all six cylinder heads via a common suction pipe made of light metal. The motor has pressure circulation lubrication with a temperature controller; the oil is cleaned by a filter in the main flow and a fine filter. It has water cooling with a finned tube cooler, which is regulated by a control thermostat. A fan blows the waste heat away.
