The Mercedes-Benz G 3a is a light, military, off-road truck with three axles. The vehicle was built with different bodies from 1929 to 1935 in a number of over 2000 units. The Wehrmacht used the vehicle as a motor vehicle. 61 - 64 classified.

technology

The G 3a has a U-profile ladder frame . The front axle is a rigid axle suspended on half leaf springs. The two rear axles are also rigid axles and are suspended from a total of two common semi-springs. While the front wheels have single tires, the rear wheels can have double tires. The tires are all-terrain size 6-20 tires. The vehicle is decelerated with a hydraulically operated braking system, the braking force acts on all six wheels. The handbrake, on the other hand, only acts on the wheels on the front rear axle. It is steered with a spindle steering . The drive power is transmitted via a single-disc dry clutch to a gearbox with four gears and countershaft, from where the power is transmitted to the two rear axles with limited- slip differentials . The engine is a water-cooled six - cylinder gasoline engine of the Mercedes-Benz M 09 type with upright valves and a crankshaft with seven bearings. The spur gear - driven camshaft is located in the crankcase. The fuel-air mixture is prepared by two carburettors . The vehicle on-board voltage is 12 V.
