The Mercedes-Benz O 405 GN is a low-floor - articulated bus of Daimler-Benz and is the articulated version of the about two years previously published city bus O 405 N . The first version with pedestals was produced from 1992 to 1994, and in a further developed form with a pedestal-free front end from 1994 to 2001. The latter variant is also known as the O 405 GN2 and can be recognized from the outside by the larger side windows in the front of the vehicle . In this articulated pusher bus, the combustion engine (usually a diesel engine ) is located under the floor in the rear and drives the last axle. An articulation angle control in the joint ensures that the rear end does not break away. A natural gas version could optionally be ordered from 1994, the designation changed to O 405 GNG.
