The EvoBus GmbH , headquartered in Stuttgart is a 100 percent subsidiary of Daimler AG . It develops and produces buses (or chassis for them as the basis for third-party bodies from bodywork companies ) and offers services for everything to do with buses. It was founded in 1995 as a merger of the bus divisions of Daimler-Benz and the Kässbohrer vehicle works it took over . The company has six bus factories and 18 sales companies in Europe.

The buses are produced under the brand names Mercedes-Benz and Setra . Services for both brands are offered under the name Omniplus. In 2016, Daimler Buses sold 26,226 buses worldwide.

EvoBus has been experimenting with hydrogen drives for some time , since 2009 with diesel-electric hybrid buses and with fuel-cell hybrid buses for city buses. Series production of fully electrically powered Citaro city buses is due to start at the end of 2018 .

In spring 2012, the company announced that it would cut a total of 600 jobs in Mannheim and Neu-Ulm . However, this should take place without any redundancies . The remaining jobs should be [out of date] secure until at least 2018 .

The company's headquarters were relocated from Kirchheim unter Teck to Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt on May 12, 2016 .

Mannheim

At the Mannheim plant , all body shells that are assembled in Western Europe are manufactured and most of the Citaro and Capacity city ​​buses are assembled. The main bus plant of the Mercedes-Benz brand has existed since 1908 and employs around 3,500 people. Daimler's commercial vehicle engine plant is also located on the site.

New Ulm

The bodyshells from Mannheim are delivered by rail to Neu-Ulm , where final assembly takes place for all Setra buses (except for MultiClass business) and the Integro intercity bus from Mercedes-Benz. The factory was opened in 1992 and has grown steadily. Since 2006, the entire production, which previously took place at the Kässbohrer headquarters in Ulm's Weststadt, has been located here. With around 3,650 employees, Neu-Ulm is EvoBus' largest production site.

Ligny

At the Ligny-en-Barrois ( France ) plant, Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses , which are primarily intended for the French market, are assembled. Ligny was founded in 1981 as a subsidiary of Kässbohrer.

Sámano

The Sámano ⊙ plant ( Spain ) produces bus chassis for the Mercedes-Benz brand, which are supplied to body manufacturers. The location was founded by Kässbohrer in 1979 and manufactured Setra complete buses for the Iberian market. From 2000, the company specializes in chassis, which has been the only production branch since 2004.

Holýšov

The Holýšov ⊙ plant ( Czech Republic ; EvoBus Česká republika sro) with 360 employees (as of December 31, 2013) supplies shell components and segments for bus production in Mannheim.

Dortmund

The wholly owned EvoBus subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Minibus in Dortmund produces minibuses with 8 to 22 seats based on the Sprinter van .

Hoşdere

The bus plant of sister company Mercedes-Benz Türk is located in Bahçeşehir- Hoşdere  near Istanbul ( Turkey ) . EvoBus has the Travego , Tourismo , Intouro and Conecto bus models manufactured here, although the latter is currently only sold in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The MultiClass business is manufactured for Setra .
