history
Following the predecessor series O 305 GTD (only four units), a total of 47 units of the type discussed here were produced between 1986 and 1995. Of these, 20 were equipped with track guides for track bus operation. The 405 GTD were distributed among the trolleybus operators as follows :
Years of construction | piece | business | Numbers |
---|---|---|---|
1986-1987 | 18th | Essener Verkehrs-AG (EVAG) | 3711-3728 |
1987 | 2 | Test vehicles for the Rastatt O-Bahn test facility | Identification RA-D 922 and RA-LE 529 |
1988-1995 | 19th | Trolleybus Esslingen am Neckar | 310-328 |
1992 | 1 | Kapfenberg trolleybus | 31 |
1992-1994 | 3 | Bergen trolleybus | 6701-6703 |
1993 | 2 | Copenhagen | 1 and 2 |
1993 | 2 | Trolleybus Potsdam | 993 and 994 |
- The 18 Essen wagons were a special feature; they were retrofitted with additional doors on the left side at the beginning of the 1990s as part of the expanded track bus operation. These were the prerequisites for operating the central platforms in the inner-city tram tunnel, the so-called east-west clasp .
- The Rastatt car with the registration number RA-LE 529 was handed over to Kapfenberg in 1990 and included in the inventory there under the company number 30. The second Rastatt car with the registration number RA-D 922 served the manufacturer as a demonstration car, its whereabouts are unknown.
- The two Potsdam wagons were handed over to the Mürz Valley Transport Company in 1995 after the Potsdam trolleybus network was closed, and they continued to be used with the new numbers 32 (ex 994) and 33 (ex 993).
- The four cars that remained in Kapfenberg were converted to pure diesel buses when operations there ceased, the first being car 31 at the end of 2000
Not a single O 405 GTD has been in service with its original operation since 2011. Most of the cars were sold by their first owners to Bosnia-Herzegovina , Bulgaria , Russia , Romania , Belarus , to the Kirchmeyer bus company in Groß-Umstadt and to the Schweinfurt public utility company. However, the second owners largely converted the O 405 GTD into diesel buses, unless this had already been done by the first owner. Another example has been preserved as a museum at the Stuttgart Historical Tramway Association .
The successor to the O 405 GTD is the low-floor O 405 GNTD , which, however, did not go beyond the production of a single prototype.
