The Mercedes-Benz O 405 GTZ is a former trolleybus type from Daimler-Benz ; the articulated vehicle was based on the Mercedes-Benz O 405 G diesel bus series . The electrical equipment was supplied by Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). The type designation GTZ included the Power of use and is available for G elenk- T rolleybus Z urich.

description

In contrast to the O 405 GTD duo bus , which has a fully-fledged secondary drive, the auxiliary drive in the O 405 GTZ only produced 72 kilowatts - compared to 205 kilowatts for the series engine. A special feature of the O 405 GTZ: the auxiliary motor drove the central axis, while the main electrical drive was designed as a rear motor based on the sliding joint principle . The advantage of this solution: in winter operation, this could be switched on in addition to the electric motor, so that there was sufficient traction even on slippery roads . With regard to the brakes, the two versions differed: the Winterthur cars had an electromotive brake , while the Zurich cars were equipped with an eddy current brake.

Series

Following the predecessor series O 305 GT (only five units), a total of 100 units of the type discussed here were produced between 1986 and 1993. 79 of these were on the trolley Zurich the Zurich Public Transport and 21 to the trolley Winterthur of Winterthur transport companies . The total production was divided into a prototype and three regular series:

Years of construction piece business Numbers
1986 1 Zurich 1
1988-1989 35 Zurich 2-36
1988-1992 21st Winterthur 141-161
1992-1993 43 Zurich 101-143

commitment

In Zurich, the first O 405 GTZ series replaced the GTr51 , and the second series replaced the VST standard trolleybuses . In the meantime, all trolleys have been taken out of service; from 2006 they were replaced by 18 Swistrolleys 3 and 17 lighTrams - the last ones were taken out of stock at the beginning of 2009. The second series was scrapped from 2012, with the last four representatives - cars 106, 122, 131 and 142 - in use until autumn 2015. They were also the last Zurich high-floor trolleys ever.

The Winterthur wagons also replaced the GTr51 there, as did the APG trolleybuses . Initially, between March 2010 and March 2011, 19 O 405 GTZ were exchanged for new Swisstrolleys, only the two cars 147 and 149 were still in use until the end of 2012.
