The Mercedes-Benz L 6500 is a heavy truck from Mercedes-Benz that was built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau from 1935 to 1940 . The vehicle underwent a facelift in 1938, during which the driver's cab was replaced by a sheet steel driver's cab. Vehicles specially built for the Wehrmacht had the standard Wehrmacht cab .

technology

L 6500 from 1936, old driver's cab, with the hood open.

The L 6500 is a two-axle truck and has a U-profile ladder frame with a front and rear rigid axle. The axles are suspended on semi-springs, the front axle has single tires, while the rear axle has twin tires. The tires are size 12-22. Is directed with a Ross steering from ZF . On all wheels with Trilex rims there are hydraulically operated inner-shoe drum brakes that are assisted by compressed air (brake servo). The handbrake acts on the transmission. The power is transmitted from the engine via a multi-plate dry clutch to the transmission with four gears and an additional gear. The L 6500 is only available with rear-wheel drive.

The OM 57 is used as the engine. It is a six-cylinder - Series - antechamber - diesel engine with water cooling and Overhead valves that has a cc engine capacity of 12,517. The camshaft below is driven by the crankshaft with seven bearings via spur gears. The fuel is injected into the prechamber by a Bosch injection pump. Wehrmacht vehicles had a throttled engine.
