The Mercedes-Benz 203 series is the series of the mid-range C-Class model produced from March 2000 to August 2007 . It replaced the 202 series built since 1993 . The successor series 204 was presented as a sedan at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007. The sale of the station wagon presented at the IAA began on December 1, 2007.

Model history

General

The S 203 (station wagon) was produced in the DaimlerChrysler plant in Bremen , while the W 203 (sedan) was manufactured in the plants in Bremen and Sindelfingen until December 14, 2006 and as a right-hand and left-hand drive version in the East London plant ( South Africa ) . The sports coupé (CL 203) was produced in the Sindelfingen plant, with production being relocated to the Brazilian plant in Juiz de Fora from spring 2007 .

Initially, only the sedan came on the market, which was followed by the T-model from January 2001. Even before the station wagon, a more compact, visually heavily modified sports coupé (CL 203) was offered from October 2000 . From 2002, the 4MATIC all - wheel drive was also installed in the C 240 4MATIC and C 320 4MATIC models, and offered with a 5-speed automatic transmission as standard. The 5-speed automatic transmission was otherwise available as an option for all models.

With the Classic , Elegance and Avantgarde lines , three design and equipment options were available, which could be supplemented with additional extras. From March 2005 the special models Sport Edition and Sport Edition + were added. After four years, found in April 2004 facelift ( acronym : "Mopf") instead.

The early years of production are particularly affected by corrosion on the doors, wheel arches, bonnet and trunk. The manufacturer has occasionally carried out improvements. In 2006 the two millionth 203 rolled off the production line. This means that this C-Class is the most popular Mercedes model for the production period.

Body styles

Saloon (W 203)

The W 203 is the notchback sedan of the C-Class. It was available with engines ranging from 75 to 270 kW (102–367 hp). According to the VDA standard, the trunk volume was 455 liters. The sedan is equipped with a c w value especially aerodynamic of 0.26.

T-model (S 203)

The C-Class station wagon has the same engines as the sedan. Boot volume according to VDA standard: 470/1354 l.

Sports Coupé (CL 203)

The three-door sports coupé has a spoiler made of transparent plastic that is integrated into the wide-opening tailgate. According to the VDA standard, the trunk held 310 liters.

When it comes to engines, there is a slightly restricted selection compared to the sedan and station wagon: petrol engines with 90 kW (in the C 160 compressor) to 200 kW (C 350) and an AMG version C 32 with 260 kW were offered. There are also four diesel variants: the 200 CDI with 90 kW to 220 CDI with 110 kW, as well as an AMG version C 30 CDI with 170 kW.

Like the sedan and station wagon, the sports coupe was slightly modified in April 2004.
