The Mercedes-Benz W 11 , known as the 10/50 PS type Stuttgart 260 , appeared in 1929 as a derivative of the Stuttgart 200 model with its chassis and body , but with a more powerful engine .

The vehicle was available from the factory with many superstructures, including a chassis , four-door touring car , four-door sedan , convertible A, B, C, NC, or D etc., and finally from 1934 also as a six-seater Pullman sedan (W 11 L) long chassis.

Its side-controlled six - cylinder in - line engine with a displacement of 2581 cm³ develops 50 hp (37 kW) at 3400 rpm and accelerates the vehicle up to 90 km / h. A four-speed gearbox (with overdrive 1: 0.76) drives the rear wheels, which are attached to a rigid axle and suspended from semi-elliptic leaf springs. The front axle is also rigid and hangs on semi-elliptical leaf springs. The trolley is equipped with linkage brakes for all four wheels .

For a long time the “Stuttgart” type was the most important automobile offered by Daimler-Benz AG . It was not replaced by the Mercedes-Benz W 21 until 1933 .
