The Mercedes-Benz W 02 was presented at the Berlin Motor Show in October 1926. The mid-range car of conventional design with a two-liter engine and without any special technical features was designed by Ferdinand Porsche together with the 1.4-liter type W 01 and the three-liter type W 03, which were not produced in series .

Mercedes-Benz 8/38 hp (1926–1928)

The car, which was available from the factory as a chassis, four-door touring car, two- and four-door sedan, three- or four-seater convertible with two doors, cab landaulet and finally also as a sports two-seater, was initially called Mercedes-Benz 8/38 hp . Its side-controlled six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 1988 cm³ developed 38 hp (28 kW) and accelerated the vehicle to up to 75 km / h. The rear wheels, which were attached to a rigid axle and suspended from semi-elliptic leaf springs, were driven via a three-speed gearbox. The front axle was also rigid and hung on semi-elliptical leaf springs. The trolley is equipped with link brakes for all four wheels.

A Mercedes-Benz L 3/4 delivery van was also available from 1927 . It was built as a flatbed, panel van or bus with ten seats and can travel at a maximum of 60 km / h.

The pricing policy for these cars was completely unsuccessful: At first the prices were much too high, then they were lowered by 500 to 1000 ℛℳ, which fueled the rumor that the model would soon be discontinued and now sold out. In addition, the wagons were afflicted with numerous teething problems. As a result of the resulting disputes, Ferdinand Porsche left Daimler-Benz AG .

Mercedes-Benz 8/38 hp type Stuttgart 200 (1928–1933)

From 1928 onwards, the car , which had now been significantly improved by the new Technical Director Hans Nibel , was sold as the Mercedes-Benz 8/38 PS type Stuttgart 200 . It was still offered as a chassis, touring car, sedan, convertible and sports two-seater. There was now a four-speed gearbox (with overdrive 1: 0.76) and the top speed rose to 80 km / h. The van was omitted. In return, the passenger car was optionally available with a larger engine than the Mercedes-Benz 10/50 PS type Stuttgart 260 . The new delivery van also had this engine.

For a long time, this model was the most important automobile offered by Daimler-Benz AG . It was not replaced by the Mercedes-Benz W 21 until 1933 .
