The Citan (internal: W 415 ) is a high-roof station wagon from the Mercedes-Benz brand . Mercedes-Benz launched it on October 27, 2012 in Europe as the successor to the Vaneo ( Mercedes-Benz W 414 ). It is produced together with the second generation Renault Kangoo , with which it is largely identical , in Maubeuge in northern France by Maubeuge Construction Automobile .
Versions
The Citan is available in three different versions and in three lengths. You can choose from the Citan panel van , which can be combined with all three available lengths (compact: 3937 mm, long: 4321 mm, extra-long: 4705 mm), the so-called Citan Mixto , a glazed panel van with five seats and a load compartment that can only be the extra-long version is offered, and a high-roof station wagon called the Citan station wagon . This vehicle is available in the long version with five seats or in the extra-long version with seven seats and like the "Citan Mixto" has two sliding doors as standard. The panel van (long and extra-long) has a sliding door on the right side as standard, optionally also on the left side.
Technical specifications
At the beginning, the Citan was offered with two 1.5 liter diesel engines with an output of 55 kW (75 PS) and 66 kW (90 PS). Both are linked to a five-speed manual transmission . A switching point display is standard. The engine range was expanded in summer 2013. There is a turbocharged 1.2-liter gasoline engine with direct injection that develops 84 kW (114 hp) and another output level of the 1.5-liter diesel engine with 81 kW (110 hp). While the gasoline engine is offered as standard as a BlueEFFICIENCY model, this package is optionally available for the diesel models. It includes a start-stop system , braking energy recovery and tires with lower rolling resistance , so that consumption is reduced by up to 0.4 l per 100 km. Since summer 2016, the gasoline engine has also been optionally available with a 6-speed dual clutch transmission (6G-DCT).
All wheels are individually suspended; the front on wishbones and MacPherson struts , a twist beam axle is installed at the rear . All wheels have disc brakes .

Crash tests 2013
At the end of April 2013, the ADAC criticized the safety of the Citan , which received only three out of five possible stars in the Euro NCAP crash test and had "major weaknesses and safety deficiencies".
As part of a recall, the safety equipment was improved by replacing the window airbag. In another Euro NCAP crash test in November 2013, the vehicle received four out of five possible stars.
Follow-up development for 2021/2022
Daimler has announced a new generation of the Citan for 2020 . The next Citan will continue to be a cooperation with the next Renault Kangoo (also coming in 2020). A version with an electric motor has also been announced, as has a car variant called the T-Class.
