The Mercedes-Benz OM 607 is the first diesel engine to come from a cooperation between the German Daimler AG and the French automobile manufacturer Renault , and is available in the A-Class ( W 176 ), B-Class ( W 246 ) and the Citan ( W 415 ) offered.
technology
The four-cylinder in - line engine has a cylinder bore of 76 mm, a piston stroke of 80.5 mm and a displacement of 1.461 liters. The engine is offered in a total of 3 power levels that use different exhaust gas turbochargers for charging (Citans up to 66 kW do not have a VTG charger). Together they have, however, the common rail - direct injection at a pressure of 1600 bar, 2 valves per cylinder and one overhead camshaft.
For the A- and B-Class passenger car models, the basic Renault engine (K9K) was revised according to Mercedes-Benz specifications and adapted to the rest of the engine range. Starter, alternator, air conditioning compressor and the gasoline engine series M 270 engine bearings come from the Mercedes-shelf, and a dual-mass flywheel is installed. This means that Mercedes-Benz transmissions can be installed.
The following transmission variants are available for power transmission:
- Five-speed manual transmission for Citan with 55 kW or 66 kW
- Six-speed manual transmission for Citan with 81 kW
- Six-speed manual transmission for A and B class
- Seven-speed dual clutch transmission as an option for the A and B class

Exceeding the pollutant limit values
In the course of the road test carried out by Deutsche Umwelthilfe, the engine was named one of the dirtiest diesel engines currently available with an average of 1039 milligrams of nitrogen oxide (NO x ) per kilometer. It exceeds the nitrogen oxide limit by 13 times. Only the Fiat 500X and Renault Captur achieved higher pollutant emissions in Europe, exceeding them 17 and 16 times respectively.
In the EU database RAPEX there is an entry in the report for calendar week 28/2019 (8 to 14 July 2019) under A12 / 1020/19 for Mercedes Citan 108 CDI, 109 CDI, 111 CDI of the years 2015-2017. "An emissions control component used under certain conditions could degrade faster than expected and result in more nitrogen oxides (NOx) in excess of the prescribed limits."
