The Maubeuge Construction Automobile SNC , often simply with MCA abbreviated, is in the industrial area Grévaux les guides the two municipalities Maubeuge and Feignies in France ( Nord , on the border with Belgium -based) subsidiary Renault . The company was founded on April 29, 1969 in the midst of a time of industrial crisis and has been an assembly company since it opened . The foundation stone of the plant was laid on January 1, 1970 .

The efforts for the start of the project are due to Maurice Schumann , the two finance ministers at the time, Charles de Gaulle and Pierre Forest , and the then incumbent mayor of the municipality of Maubeuge. In the agreement with the chambre de commerce et d'industrie , among other things, the construction of the facility was decided, which should secure jobs for 6,000 employees in the future. For the construction of the new plant, among other things, the main plant of the Société des Usines Chausson was assigned to the new company.

The work was finally under the leadership of the April 1971 grand patron named engineer Jacques Buchet added. 1979 Renault took over the majority of shares in the company and thus management of the plant.

First, the two models Renault 15 and 17 were assembled here. The latter was named 177 as the export designation for Italy. In late 1979, both were replaced by the newer Fuego , which was manufactured until 1987. With the Express , the plant has also been assembling a commercial vehicle since 1985. The model became a great success with businesses in Europe. The Kangoo is being built as the successor to the Express . The first generation of the model was also sold as the Nissan Kubistar in Europe and Africa . The second generation has also been manufactured as a Mercedes-Benz Citan since 2012 . ( Badge engineering )

The factory premises cover an area of 83.4 hectares , of which 24.6 hectares are built on. Around 2,800 people were still employed in the plant in 2011. The daily capacity is 600 vehicles per day. The ZE electric car based on the Kangoo promises a fresh boost ; it has been sold in Germany since the end of 2011.

In 2009/10 there was also an economic crisis in many industrialized countries as part of the financial and banking crisis . When it ended, the euro crisis became visible. In 2009 and 2010 the production figures fell; Chief Operating Officer Claude Bourgeois , who retired early on October 30, 2010, expressed great concern about the future of the plant. In recent years there have often been days on which the production lines have stopped because there were no orders or because there were delivery problems with a motor (type K9K). In 2010 the plant produced around 113,000 vehicles.

There were rumors that the plant would cease production in 2012; the newly built Renault Tanger Méditerranée should also supply the European market. The Kangoo will continue to be the main product of the plant.
