Feignies is a French municipality with 6881 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . Feignies belongs to the arrondissement of Avesnes-sur-Helpe and is part of the canton of Aulnoye-Aymeries . The inhabitants are called Finésiens .

geography

Feignies is part of the Avesnois Regional Nature Park and is located on the Flamenne , a small tributary of the Sambre . Feignies is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Gognies-Chaussée in the northeast, Maubeuge in the east, Neuf-Mesnil in the south, Vieux-Mesnil in the southwest and La Longueville in the west and north.

The Route nationale 2 leads through the village to Maubeuge and on to the Belgian border, from where the former Route nationale 49 goes towards Bavay (today's Départementstrasse 649).

history

During the siege of Maubeuge it turned out that the Fort Leveau in Feignies (built in 1874) could hardly withstand the artillery fire.
