Leval is a French commune with 2,455 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Avesnes-sur-Helpe and the canton of Aulnoye-Aymeries .
geography
The municipality is located around 30 kilometers south-east of Valenciennes in the Avesnois Regional Nature Park . Neighboring communities are:
- Aulnoye-Aymeries in the north,
- Monceau-Saint-Waast in the east,
- Dompierre-sur-Helpe in the south,
- Noyelles-sur-Sambre in the southwest,
- Sassegnies in the west and
- Berlaimont in the northwest.
The canalized river Sambre runs along the western boundary of the municipality, the capital of the municipality is crossed by its tributary Tarsy . The northern places of the municipality of Cité des Forges and Le Petit Maubeuge have merged with the neighboring municipality of Aulnoye-Aymeries.
Transport links
Leval is away from national road connections. The regional road traffic is handled via the departmental roads D951 and D959 and some other local roads that connect Leval with its neighboring communities. The municipality is crossed by a railway line that runs from Avesnes-sur-Helpe to Aulnoye-Aymeries and has a stop in Leval. The Sambre River, which has been canalized for inland navigation , is mainly used for freight traffic , but there is no relevant infrastructure in the municipality itself.

Attractions
The Saint-Saulve church characterizes the central townscape. Opposite it is a park with a bandstand and a war memorial.
Of particular interest is the Tour Florentine , a tower used as a railway depot from the first half of the 20th century - Monument historique .
