Frasnoy is a commune in northern France . It belongs to the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region , the Nord department , the Avesnes-sur-Helpe arrondissement and the Aulnoye-Aymeries canton (until 2015 the Quesnoy-Ouest canton ). The place name "Fraxinetum" is known from the late 11th century. The residents call themselves Fresnotains .

It borders in the north-west on Villers-Pol and Jenlain , in the north on Wargnies-le-Petit , in the north-east on Preux-au-Sart , in the east and south-east on Gommegnies , in the south-west on Villereau and Le Quesnoy and in the west on Orsinval . The municipality is crossed by the Aunelle river.
