Gommegnies is a French commune with 2,301 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . Gommegnies belongs to the Arrondissement of Avesnes-sur-Helpe and the canton of Aulnoye-Aymeries (until 2015: canton Le Quesnoy-Ouest ). The inhabitants are called Gommegnons .

geography

Gommegnies is located between Valenciennes and Maubeuge near the Belgian border. The municipality is crossed by the Aunelle river. Gommegnies is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Preux-au-Sart in the north, Amfroipret and Bermeries in the northeast, Locquignol in the south and east, Villereau in the south and southwest and Frasnoy in the west.
