The Río Jerte is about 70 kilometers long, a tributary of the Río Alagón in the province of Cáceres in the autonomous region of Extremadura .

course

The Río Jerte rises - depending on the strength and duration of the rainfall - at an altitude of around 1800 to 2000 meters from several spring streams on the southern slope of the 2401 meter high Pico Torreón in the Sierra de Solana de Ávila ; it initially flows in a south-westerly direction to be dammed after about 30 kilometers in the Embalse de Plasencia . In the city of Plasencia its course turns briefly to the north and then to the west; at Carcaboso, however, it resumes its southwestern direction of flow. Its confluence with the Río Alagón is in the municipality of Galisteo .
