The Renault 15 - R15 for short - was a three-door station wagon coupe launched by Renault in July 1971. The front-wheel drive vehicle based on the Renault 12 was the successor to the Renault Caravelle . At the same time as the R15, the parallel model Renault 17 came on the market, which differed in the shape of the headlights, the lack of a B-pillar, a wide C-pillar and the engine.
The only production site for the R15 was the plant in Palencia under the management of Renault España . The model was also assembled at ENSAM Ingénerie in Maubeuge , including the units for the German market.
history
The Renault 15 TL had R12 as a 4-cylinder in-line engine with 1289 cc capacity and 40 kW (54 hp), which accelerated the vehicle h to 150 km /. The front wheels were individually suspended from double wishbones with coil springs and provided with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers and a stabilizer. The rear axle, stamped from sheet steel, was suspended from two drawn trailing arms and a central wishbone. Disc brakes were used at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
The top model Renault 15 TS had an engine with 1565 cm³ displacement. This developed 66 kW (90 PS) and reached 170 km / h. Like all engines, the engine came from the R16. Instead of the standard four-speed gearbox with manual center shift, a three-speed automatic was available.
Facelift
In March 1976 the front and rear of all model versions were revised (with wider headlights). In addition, the GTL received improved equipment (including single seats in the front).
Renault discontinued the model series in August 1979 and presented the Fuego as the successor model in February 1980 .
